Queries
The Curtin OUA office serves as a first point of contact for students and can answer administrative queries or direct them to the relevant area. In this way queries are filtered for the academic staff.
OUA staff at Curtin can assist students with logging into OASIS. If students experience problems OUA staff can refer them to the relevant helpdesk.
Students and staff can call (+618) 9266 2102 or email OpenCurtin@curtin.edu.au.
Enrolments
Students enrol in Curtin OUA units via the OUA website.
Enrolments in units are processed by OUA, Melbourne. Once the students are enrolled the details are transferred to Curtin. These files are imported into student one by Curtin OUA staff. Curtin OUA staff also process changes of contact details.
Withdrawals
Students are required to submit their withdrawal requests to OUA, Melbourne.
Once OUA have processed these requests they will notify Curtin. Curtin staff will then withdraw the students from Curtin's database. Further information about withdrawals is available on OUA's website.
Student Orientation and Support
At the beginning of each study period all current students receive the Going the Distance booklet [PDF - 2.3MB] which informs them of their Curtin ID number and the various processes involved with studying through Curtin.
OUA students also have access to a range of Study Resources including academic writing guides. Plus, students studying thorough OUA can prepare themselves for study by accessing a range of Preparatory Courses.
Please note: some of these units are free but some may have an associated cost.
OUA Study Periods
Please be aware that Open Universities Australia operates over different study period/session calendars to internal or Distance Education units.

Assignments
Assignment submission details are contained within your Unit Outline. When the assignments have been marked, the marks are logged and returned to the students. In this way backup records are maintained.
Mid-Study Period Tests
If a unit has a mid-study period test, the OUA office at Curtin organises this for the students - see the eLearn website for more information.
Final Invigilated Examinations
The final invigilated examinations are handled by OUA in Melbourne. The OUA office at Curtin collects the examination papers from the academics and sends them to Melbourne.
When the papers are returned they are logged onto Student One before being distributed to the schools. OUA in Melbourne have a website which provides detailed information on their examination services.
If your unit is offered through OUA and contains a final exam, please include the following information in your Unit Outline:
OUA Melbourne is managing the final invigilated examinations. Detailed instructions and the Final Examination Timetable is available on the OUA Exam Services website.
Results
After the Board of Examiners, OUA staff at Curtin upload and ratify the results on Student One.
The Centre for eLearning (CeL) will not release examination results before the result publication dates.
Registration of Intent to Complete a Degree through Curtin
OUA students can study units without intending to complete a degree. If they decide to complete a degree through Curtin there is a form that needs to be submitted. Internet Communications students must complete and submit the BA (Internet Communications) registration form. Students enrolled in all other courses are required to complete the Intent to Complete a Degree through Curtin form which they have to submit. The staff at OUA, Curtin handle the administrative aspects of this registration.
Graduation
When students have completed the requirements for a degree they must apply to graduate. Curtin staff liaise with OUA Melbourne to obtain academic transcripts, degree coordinators at the schools and the Graduations Office.
