The eScholars Program aims to support academic staff from across the university to implement new technologies in learning and teaching using action learning. This entails designing, implementing and evaluating learning activities within particular teaching and learning contexts. Applications are invited from both individuals and groups; successful applicants will be awarded a $10,000 grant per project.

eScholars Program Details

Rationale

The eScholars Program aims to support the University's strategic focus on flexible learning, through promoting quality teaching and learning practices that positively impact the learning experience and retention of significant numbers of students, including particular cohorts. Flexible teaching approaches that encompass strategies suitable for large classes and culturally diverse groups is promoted. Optimization of active learning and quality student engagement realized through the affordances of online technologies is endorsed.

Commitment

Successful applicants will be expected to:

  • Participate in four 1-hour workshops during 2011/2012:
    • Workshop 1: Monday 17 October 2011 at 3pm
    • Workshop 2: Tuesday 8 November 2011 at 3pm
    • Workshop 3: Week beginning 21 November 2011
    • Workshop 4: Thursday 9 February 2012 at 10 am
  • Gain a greater understanding of new and emerging technologies available for use by staff and students at Curtin and select a technology for integration in a unit/units
  • Plan learning activities to fulfil project goals
  • Implement and evaluate the project
  • Share their experiences with colleagues through short presentations and video case studies and fulfil a mentoring role within their teaching area
  • Write a 10-page chapter for inclusion in a book on eTeaching and Learning at Curtin.

Grant expenditure

Grant monies may be spent on approved teaching buyout or resources associated with the project.
